On Friday, August 12, 2022, twenty eight individuals gathered for the last time as a class. The eleven month Adult Practical Nursing program came to a close with the tradition of a pinning ceremony, marking the student's graduation from the program.
Deep belly laughs, tears and sincerity filled the room with emotion as the all-female class celebrated their time together. Many students agreed on the difficulty of the course, but attribute their success to the unwavering support they received from their teachers, families and each other along the way.
"It's not easy, but it's so worth it," said Practical Nursing student Ana Arruda. "The teachers are amazing. They make you want to learn, they make you want to keep going. They make it easy to want to be here."
Many of the students continued working full and part time jobs during their time in the Practical Nursing program, some returning to their same organization post graduation and taking steps to further their career path there.
The students also recently attended a Practical Nursing job fair to introduce themselves to HR and hiring teams from area health organizations, many of which resulted in upcoming careers. Student Diana Russ has been accepted as a nurse on a Medical Surgical Unit, while others will fill the need for qualified nurses at other organizations such as Rochester Regional Health and F.F. Thompson Hospital.
This year's class was able to utilize new equipment in the Health Professions lab which aided in their hands-on training and patient care. Adult and pediatric simulator mannequins allowed students to perform a wide range of assessments for different scenarios, and video recording equipment made them able to review their performance afterwards.
Many students will eventually return to school to pursue a higher degree, but for now this class of Practical Nurses is celebrating every bit of their success, and rightfully so. Their dedication, hard work and perseverance paid off, and we know it will in their futures, as well. Congratulations to the Practical Nursing Class of 2022! We are proud of you for Making Success Possible!
