Upstate Institute

The Upstate Institute for School Boards & Staff Development (formerly known as Genesee Valley School Boards Institute for Staff Development-GVSBI) was established in 1954 to provide support and training to boards of education in a nine-county region of upstate New York.  In 1990, the Upstate Institute partnered with the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES and continued to expand its professional development offerings.

Our current focus is to provide professional development opportunities for support staff within school districts. Each year, we hold a variety of conferences and workshops for individuals to enhance skills, obtain certifications, receive required training, invoke awareness discussions, and to help them achieve their professional goals.

We currently hold annual training conferences and workshops for:
  • Educational Office Professionals
  • Para-Educators / Paraprofessionals
  • Food Service Personnel
  • Transportation Personnel
  • Facilities Personnel
  • School Safety & Security
