PBIS is a proactive tool used for teaching students how to meet the school-wide behavioral expectations. FLSS staff agreed upon the acronym “RISE Above”, as the format to present these expectations. The letters in the acronym stand for Respect, Integrity, Safety, Engaged. Students who exhibit positive behaviors are acknowledged through bi-weekly random incentives, RISEing Star awards, quarterly field trips and assemblies.

Finger Lakes Secondary School is designed to provide structure, consistency and feedback while allowing flexibility to address social, emotional and behavioral needs.Establishing clear rules and limits as well as natural and logical consequences are a significant component of the program.

Small class size allows more flexibility to meet students’ needs. High staff-to-student ratio supports the opportunity for small group and individualized instruction. A team consisting of a teacher, counselor and/or additional related service providers is assigned for each student.
