Dear RJEC families,
I am pleased to welcome you all to the 2018-2019 school year. This year is a year filled with optimism and promise for our students. Last year was one of the most successful years in our school’s history setting new highs in state test scores while reducing the amount of behavioral interruptions within our day. It was by most measures a very successful year.
This year our focus in the building is innovation. We are trying several new ideas. We have combined two of our speech and language teachers into one room allowing them more opportunities to generate and try new ideas, work with students in larger groups to practice skills learned in individual sessions, and pilot different approaches to language therapy. We are also increasing our team teaching opportunities. We learned last year that our students were very successful in team taught situations using two teachers in a classroom, while maintaining our 6:1:1 ratio. This proved very effective and we are looking at more ways to capitalize on this practice. Multiple classrooms have now been outfitted with Chromebooks. Many classrooms now have a students working throughout their day on computers preparing them for secondary school and beyond. These are only a few examples of changes and innovations we are working on at the Red Jacket Education Center this year.

We're Doing Great Things!
It is my honor and pleasure to serve as the principal of the Red Jacket Education Center. Our center provides New York State Standards based instruction to just over 120 students, in twenty-one classrooms. We have an outstanding team of educators, clinicians, and support staff that provide the social and emotional support needed by our students to succeed. Our classrooms have six students in a room with multiple adults allowing for multiple one on one interactions throughout the day.
Our program utilizes many research based approaches such as PBIS, TCI, and Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI). Our teachers differentiate everything from lessons to approaches, to outcomes to make success possible. We are very proud of the growth our students make and through the use of I-Ready, tracking boards, and IEP tracking we can see that our students are being successful. Our vision here is relatively simple. We want to produce literate students who can take their abilities to read, write, speak, and listen and learn in any environment. At the same time we want to produce young citizens that adhere to social acceptable norms, practice non-violent strategies to problem solve, and apply coping strategies to deal with adversity.
With my Assistant Principal, Chris Singer, we strive to provide the leadership for our staff and students that allow them to realize their full potential.
