Purpose: The purpose of Additional Grants for Expanded Prekindergarten for Three- and Four-Year Old Students in High Need School Districts is to increase the availability of high-quality prekindergarten placements for high need children and schools within New York State. A school district is considered high need if it has a Needs Resource Index of 0.75 or higher, as most recently calculated by the State Education Department or if it is a high-need school district based on the State Education Department’s most recent calculation of the Need Resource Category.
Eligibility: All public schools
Priority: Due to the highly competitive nature of this grant, a strong preference for funding will be given to high need districts, especially those that currently do not offer a state funded prekindergarten program.
Mandatory Notice of Intent Due: August 30, 2019 – you can not apply if you don’t do this.
Due Date: Received by NYSED by September 18, 2019

Analysis: It is not recommended to apply, unless you are a high-need district and preference category 1 or 2. If you are preference category 2 and only have less than 5 need and current grant use points it is also advised you don’t apply.
