Itinerant and Shared Services


Itinerant Services are provided by BOCES staff who are shared by two or more districts, usually on a Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) basis. This arrangement enables component districts to increase their course offerings without adding full-time teaching positions. The sharing districts are directly billed. Services of a support nature can also be shared and are also included in this category. (BOCES aid is unavailable for support positions and services that are otherwise aided.)

 

An initial offering of specific personnel is based on assumptions about final requests for the coming year. However, requests for Itinerant Services can occur throughout the year and need not be restricted to the positions on the initial list.

Bus Driver Training

Provides instruction by state-certified instructors in the basic safety training course required of all bus drivers, the advanced safety training course and advanced driver training.

A regional workshop, co-sponsored by the Genesee Valley School Boards Institute is also available.

Family Support Center

The Family Support Center (FSC) is a program first pioneered by the Phelps-Clifton Springs School District in 2001, this unique initiative was designed to improve access to support services for students and their families.

Our centers provide Solution Focused Brief Therapy at no cost to families referred to the centers. As the name suggests, it means that counseling is short term and focused on solutions, rather than problems. A study of Solution Focused Brief Therapy has shown that problems in families happen, but not all of the time. By focusing on the positive times, families can improve their lives as they become more confident and connected.
