Arts-in-Education

What is Arts-in-Education?
The Arts-in-Education CO-SER helps schools bring arts experiences to students and receive BOCES aid for eligible activities. All programs must be connected to the New York State Standards for the Arts

What can you use it for?
Districts can use this service for:

  • Artist visits, performances, workshops, and residencies in dance, music, theater, visual arts, literature, and media arts
  • Visiting authors, illustrators, or storytellers
  • Museum, theater, or film trips (must include an arts component)
  • Other arts-related field trips
  • Staff development focused on integrating the arts into the classroom or improving arts instruction

How does it work?

  • Both in-school programs and field trips can qualify for aid—even if only your district participates.
  • Districts that purchase the Arts-in-Education Core can set aside funds for programs and cultural visits.
  • To request services, fill out the Arts-in-Education Request Form and get approval from your district’s AIE representative.

Examples of eligible activities:

  • Bringing in a dancer for a school-wide performance
  • Hosting a local author for a writing workshop
  • Taking students to a museum for an art-focused field trip
  • Providing teacher training on arts integration
