Special Education Program Descriptions

Career Creations/Transition Class (CC)   15:1:1   

· A full or half day program designed to meet the needs of students, ages 18-21 with mild to moderate cognitive abilities who are eligible to attend school until the age of 21.  Students should complete four years of high school prior to entering this program. Instruction is provided in the four core content areas.  There is a strong focus on development of employment skills.  Additional emphasis is placed on social, self-care, communication, and transition goals.

Social Skills Development (SSD)               6:1:1     

· A full day program designed to meet the needs of students who are unable to succeed in their home school districts due to unmet behavioral, emotional, or mental health needs. The program is designed to meet the needs of students with mild developmental disabilities through gifted abilities. Instruction is multifaceted, enabling students to learn academic skills as well as social, emotional, and behavioral skills needed to successful during and after formal education ends.

Functional Skills Development (FSD)      1:12+(3:1)

· A full day program designed to meet the needs of students with multiple disabilities within the severe to profound range of developmental disabilities. Students within this program need moderate to maximum support for management needs.  Many students have medical concerns or severe physical disabilities. The program is individualized with an emphasis on functional self-care, sensory and environmental awareness experiences, physical and muscular development, communication, and pre-vocational skills. 

Appropriate Social, Behavioral and Communication Skills (ASBCS)            6:1:2     

· A full day program designed to meet the needs of students struggling in the areas of pragmatic language and communication, social awareness and interaction, academic learning, and behavior management.  The program is designed to meet the needs of students with developmental disabilities through gifted abilities.

Communication and Physical Mobility Development (CPMD)              6:1:1

· A full day program designed to meet the needs of students with physical/orthopedic challenges and/or other health impairments.  The program serves students with mild to significant developmental disabilities. Many students require varying degrees of physical assistance/intervention to meet their management needs. There is a strong focus on academics, mobility and communications including augmentative and assistive technology.

Academic, Communication and Career Development (ACCD)          1:12:1

· A full day program designed to meet the needs of students with speech and language delays.  The program serves students with mild to moderate developmental disabilities.  There is a strong focus on academics, pragmatic language, and social skills.
