Health Careers Academy

The Health Careers program provides the basic knowledge and competencies common to careers in the healthcare field. Students are prepared to meet competencies to become a Certified Nurse Assistant. Students take part in long-term care and hospital clinical experience that provide the added training and education requirements needed for the NYS Nurse Assistants Exam.  The program includes exploration of other health-related careers.

In the WTCC Health Careers, students may obtain multiple certifications over two years. Juniors have the opportunity to become certified in the following: Patient Care Assistants (PCA), CPR/First Aid (AHA), OSHA 10, and Home Health Aides. Students get to experience real-life hands-on care at medical facilities for a total of 60 hours.

Seniors start their adventure in obtaining the Certified Nursing Assistant Certification. The senior year has an additional two weeks of clinical rotation for a total of another 60 hours (120 hours total over 2 years). During these rotations, the main focus is long term care facilities and rehabilitation centers. Eligible students register and test at WTCC for the New York Certified Nursing Aide exam. After they have successfully completed and passed the CNA exam, seniors may become a Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT). The CPCT certification takes everything that our seniors have learned previously while adding new and fun content such as phlebotomy and EKG.

Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Patient Care Assistants (PCA), Home Health Aides, Patient Care Technician (CPCT), CPR/First Aid (AHA), OSHA 10
