Theresa Smith

If you’ve ever worked with the P-16 department, you’ve undoubtedly had the pleasure of working with someone who has been quietly, but diligently working behind the scenes for a number of years.

For the last nineteen and a half years, that quiet, reliable presence is none other than Theresa Smith.

Always greeting you with a smile, Theresa currently handles all things P-16, noting that if she can take care of the business and financial portions, it helps others in the department focus on what’s most important: the students.

“I enjoy knowing that I play a supporting role within the P-16 team. That role allows others to focus less on the financial stuff and more on the students,” she said. “I take pride in knowing that my role makes a difference in the overall function of the organization.”

Theresa has been a familiar face for many of us at W-FL BOCES. She started in the Business Office, quickly progressing into Special Education and Reading Recovery where she took on the role of Central Treasurer for Student Clubs, a role she still holds today. She also acted as Homeschool Coordinator for a decade of her career before fully evolving into her current position in P16.

She responds to the various needs of multiple departments; tackling each day with a calm presence and delicately balancing the pressure that can come along with managing the budget and billing side of things.

As the P-16 department — and BOCES — continues to grow and adapt to change, Theresa knows that her role will continue to be just as important. And while she wears many hats, it is her extensive knowledge and calm demeanor that keeps things in P-16 running so smoothly.

“By supporting the financial and business function of the P-16 program, I hope to see continued growth, streamlined processes, and advancement for both our students and staff,” she said. “My hope is that BOCES continues its positive impact on students, staff, and the community.”
