If you’ve ever met Cindy in person, you’d immediately notice that she has something in the works. Whether it’s prepping for a student council meeting, working with students in the classroom, subbing in the main office, or coordinating a yearbook, Cindy stays busy throughout the school year.

Cindy has been a part of the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES organization for an incredible 40 years, serving in a number of different capacities. In the late ‘80’s she started her career as a substitute, noting that she has been around individuals with special needs all her life and always saw herself working in the special education field growing up.

In the fall of 1987, she began working as a 1:1 Aide. After a few years working with a team to improve student outcomes, Cindy took on a position as a 1:1 Aide at Wayne Education Center (WEC).

In her early years at Wayne Education Center, she worked in several different programs including the P-16 Social Skills in 7th and 8th grade classrooms, and then became an office aide for a number of years. When the WEC campus moved to its location in Williamson, she rejoined the classroom and was part of the team that started Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at WEC.

Since then, she has worn many hats including subbing for teachers and TAs, covering staff changes in the main office, and helping fill in where needed for medical leaves and retirements. As if that isn’t enough, Cindy is also the WEC and WTCC Building Representative for the Teacher’s Union. You name it — Cindy has done it.

Perhaps her most proud accomplishment at WEC is Student Council. She has been a part of the club since its inception and is still its dedicated advisor, running a successful club year after year.

Under her direction, Student Council creates the yearbook, participates in community projects such as collecting supplies for the local animal shelter and running their annual “Sharing the Holiday Spirit” event in conjunction with students from the Red Jacket Education Center.

She and her students also plan school activities like the staff appreciation breakfast, end-of-year awards, senior activities, and they also have a huge hand in graduation.

Cindy has worked with high school students for the last 20 years and has enjoyed so much of what she does.

“It's a great feeling knowing that you are part of a team that gets these students across that graduation stage,” she said. “I feel I am heard and part of a great team here at WEC."

On top of it all, Cindy is so giving of herself, her time and her talents, and we are so lucky to have someone so valuable in our organization. She is the true definition of what it means to be a leader at Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES.
